David Estrada fires to 1st against Cabrillo

After West Valley's 14-game winning streak was snapped Thursday, the Vikings dropped their second straight to Cabrillo, 7-3 in Aptos Saturday. The Vikings (24-8, 10-2 Coast-South) fell out of first in the Coast-South for the first time in 2025, a game behind Ohlone (23-8, 11-1).

The Vikings jumped out on top early Saturday, scoring two in the top of the 1st on a Kai Laxa double that brought home Carmelo Rivera and David Estrada. The Seahawks (12-19, 5-7) answered with a solo score in the home half of the 1st and three more in the 4th. The Vikings climbed to within 4-3 in the 5th when Estrada scored on Laxa's RBI-groundout to second. Cabrillo put it away with two tallies in the 5th and one in the 8th.

Laxa finished 2-for-4 with three RBI. Rivera had a double and Estrada scored twice. WVC starter Julian Ito took the loss and dropped to 5-2 on the year. The Vikings were handcuffed by nine runners left on base and seven strikeouts.

A three-game battle between West Valley and Ohlone for the conference top spot begins Tuesday (4/8) in Fremont at 2:30pm, with game two at Valhalla Thursday (4/10), also starting at 2:30. The series returns to Ohlone Saturday (4/12). First pitch is 1:00pm.
