Vikings take 3rd in Coast, send large group to state meet
After a solid 3rd place showing at the ultra-competitive Coast Conference Championship meet, West Valley will send a strong contingent of swimmers to this weekend's 3C2A State Swimming Championships at Santa Rosa Jr. College.
Mia Sickler-Lopez won the 100 Individual Medley with a time of 1:03.38 and anchored a trio of championship relay squads. She teamed with Kayla Tweed, Bella Raynes and Grace Appler to capture the 200 Freestyle Relay (1:43.66), and Tweed, Raynes and Athena Campos to win the 400 Free Relay (3:50.05). Tweed, Raynes, Sofia Gaytan and Sickler-Lopez closed out the freestyle relay trifecta with the 800 Free championship (8:28.06).
Viking individuals making state meet appearances will be Campos (200 Fly), Sickler-Lopez (100 IM, 400 IM, 500 Free) and Tweed (200 Back, 200 Free). All three WVC relay teams (200 Free, 400 Free, 800 Free) will be hitting the blocks in Santa Rosa.
