West Valley celebrated its sophomores with a spirited 3-2 win over rival Cabrillo Wednesday at the West Valley College Beach Volleyball Complex. Seven Vikings - Sophie Ehret, Rowynn Funk, Emma Landaverde, Julia LaPierre, Anahita Miahnahri, Jess Watanabe and Francesca Zanotti - were playing in their final regular season home match in the orange and navy. The perfect spring day provided the appropriate setting for an emotional win on the last day of the Coast Conference schedule. The Vikings improved to 8-6 in the Coast, 9-11 overall, while Cabrillo dropped to 9-5 and 13-7.

Viking 4's Kyra Bito and LaPierre got things started with a sweep of Haley De La Riva and Natalia Cash in the opening wave. The 2's went to a 3rd set, with Cabrillo's Avalon Agnelli/Sophie Hall holding off WVC's Funk/Watnabe. The late wave saw Viking 1's Ehret/Zanotti and 5's Anastacia Delatorre/Sianalai Tautolo pick up straight-set victories. Cabrillo's Becca Willemse/Dakotah Johnson escaped with a hard-fought three-set win over West Valley's Landaverde/Rachel Sanchez.

The Vikings head to the Coast Conference Pairs Championships next Wednesday (4/23) at Main Beach in Santa Cruz.
